A portion of the elaborate facade atop the retail building
A visual piece of historic Gallatin is no more after this week. A portion of the elaborate facade atop the retail building owned by Dean Hales is being removed on the east side of the business square in Gallatin. The ornamental facade is dated 1887, making it 120 years old next year. Its removal was by necessity.
“The wind has blown it loose,” said Mr. Hales. “It was pulling away from the building and needed to come off.”
Roof repair will follow, once this decorative finial comes off. Public safety is the priority. Barney Esbeck and crew is removing the facade, which is a construction of tin over wood.
