Funeral services for Arlen Thompson were held at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Joseph. Interment was at Mount Olive Cemetery, Troy, Kan. The family suggests memorials to Hands of Hope Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Arlen G. "Tom" Thompson, 72, of St. Joseph, formerly of Troy, Kan., died on April 9, 2006, after a brief illness.
Mr. Thompson was born on Sept. 5, 1933, in Fargo, N.D., to Clarence and Stella (Huseby) Thompson.
Mr. Thompson worked at the Ideal Barber Shop in Atchison, Kan., and retired after 43 1/2 years at the same shop, which he bought in 1970.
He married Helen Horner on Dec. 12, 1954, in Troy. She died Aug. 15, 1983. On April 12, 1985, he was married to Maxine Berthiaume in St. Joseph, where he has since made his home.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Horner; and his son-in-law, Clint Wisdom.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine Thompson of the home; one daughter, Debbie Hower of Altamont; one son, Gary, Horton, Kan.; son, Tim, Nortonville, Kan.; and Janet Wisdom, Topeka, Kan.; stepchildren, Ellen Brooks, St. Louis, Janice Butcher, Dallas, Texas; and David Berthiaume, St. Joseph; brother, Wallace, Waverly, Tenn.; sister, Yvonne Johnson, Halstead, Minn.; 24 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
