Barb Ballew was appointed mayor of Gallatin during the regular meeting of the Gallatin Board of Aldermen held Monday, April 10. Mrs. Ballew will serve the remainder of the term until April, 2007. City Clerk Autumn Acree gave the Oath of Office to newly elected aldermen Dan Lockridge and Kenneth King earlier that day at city hall.

City Administrator Zac Johnson commented that Layne Western would start drilling test holes Tuesday for the new well.

Trudi Burton commented that Don Caillouet with Layne Western thinks some improvements can be made at the water plant to increase the flow of water going through the plant.

Mr. Johnson stated that he received the hot mix estimate on a few streets and that it was a good price, but the city couldn’t afford to do it with all the other streets that need to be done for the year. He also stated that the city is going to get a contract price for road oil this year.

Police Chief Mark Richards reported on activity from March 24 to April 10. Reports Taken/Tickets Given: 1 – sexual assault; 2 – domestic; 1 – 96 hour evaluation; 1 – careless driving; 1 – driving while intoxicated; 1 – open container of alcohol; 1 – driving while suspended; 1 – property damage; 2 – speeding; 2 – stealing. There are eight dogs in the pound.

Chief Richards stated that a second list of code violations has been compiled and letters will be sent out within the next week. He added that DARE assisted the Park Board with the Easter egg hunt in the park last Saturday. Chillicothe’s Wal-Mart donated a boy’s bike and Green Hills Community Action Agency donated a girl’s bike that were given away at the Easter egg hunt. Additional items were given away, such as a pool pass, games and beanies.

Discussion was held on leveling stones at Lile Cemetery. A bid of $1,125 from Richard Curtis to level stones indicated at Lile was accepted by the board.

Bill Lewis, Andereck, Evan, Milne, Peace & Johnson, LLC, were appointed as city attorney.

Mrs. Acree read the following election certification results submitted by the Daviess County Clerk: West Ward: Pat Baker 25, Larry Barnes 22, Dan Lockridge (write-in) 199; East Ward: Kenneth King 87; Kate Chrisman 73; Judith Bush 28. The board accepted the results as read.

The board appointed Bob Snidow as president of the board.

During public comment, Carla Arnold had questions about appointments that are to be made in "new business."

Mike Arnold brought Boy Scout Troop 66 to the meeting as a requirement for Eagle Scout.

Bills in the amount of $122,686.50 were approved for payment.

During old business, Pat Baker commented that John Thomas might want to reconsider coming back to his former position as mayor.

The board tabled the Planning and Zoning administrator appointment until the next meeting.

Discussion was held on the sewer project. Sewer bills in the amount of $130,096.96 were approved for payment.

During comments by aldermen, Kenneth King commented on potholes in the streets.

Dan Lockridge commented that a sign for Lile Cemetery and straightening of the stones would be good Eagle Scout projects.

Bob Snidow commented about needing to be cautious of the expenses.
