Customers in Daviess County are now being served by the Maryville office and customers in Caldwell County are being served by the St. Joseph office.
The Social Security branch office in Chillicothe is seeing a reduction in case loads as a result of a realignment process that is transferring clients in two counties to other field offices, according to a report in the Constitution Tribune.
Customers in Daviess County are now being served by the Maryville office and customers in Caldwell County are being served by the St. Joseph office.
The service area changes went into effect last week in an effort to provide better customer service, according to John Garlinger, regional communications director for the Social Security Administration.
Garlinger said that as part of the administration’s continuing effort to make government more efficient and responsible to its citizens, it monitors changes in demographics and service area needs to determine if adjustments are needed in how business is conducted.
Garlinger said that the Chillicothe office was not set up in such a way to keep up with the workloads of six counties and that for some time, the administration has been moving work from the Chillicothe office to other offices.
Mr. Garlinger said individuals don’t have to go to the specific office that is assigned to their county of residence.
“People can be served at any office anywhere,” he said. “It is important that people know that they can be served anywhere Social Security has an office.”
Additionally, Garlinger said, most Social Security Administration services are available over the telephone or Internet, which can provide an alternative to waiting in lines.
The administration is asking that residents in Daviess and Caldwell counties contact their new assigned offices for their business needs.
