Robert Dean Hines, 83, Hamilton, died April 10, 2006, at the hospital in Cameron.
Funeral services for Robert Hines will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 13, at the Hamilton United Methodist Church. Masonic service begins at 6:30 p.m. (today) Wednesday, April 12, with visitation to follow from 7 to 8 p.m., at Bram Funeral Home, Hamilton. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery, Hamilton. Memorials may be made to his church or the Missouri Veteran’s Home, Cameron.
Robert Dean Hines, 83, Hamilton, died April 10, 2006, at the hospital in Cameron.
Mr. Hines was born on Sept. 30, 1922, at home in Gallatin, to Leslie and Lena Mae Watson Hines. He graduated from Kidder high school in 1940. From 1940 to 1941, he attended Tarkio college, where he was a member of a winning basketball team. He attended the University of Missouri from 1941 to 1943 until he was called into the service.
Mr. Hines entered the Army Reserves in 1942 and reported to active duty in March, 1943, in the South Pacific and the Philippines. He was discharged in January, 1946, and remained in the Reserves until 1949.
On June 20, 1947, he married Jean Marie Jones in Hamilton.
Mr. Hines owned and operated International Harvester, Massey Ferguson, Chrysler and G.M.C. dealerships, and the Itco Farm Parts Store. He retired from these for health reasons to join his wife in the Hines Real Estate business. In the year 2000, he moved into the Missouri Veteran’s Home at Cameron.
Mr. Hines was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity at the University of Missouri. He joined the United Methodist Church at an early age and served in many capacities, including Sunday School teacher, chairman of the church board and committees, and was a certified lay speaker. He was a 50-plus year member and past master of the Hamilton Masonic Lodge No. 224, and 50-year member of the following groups: Scottish Rite, Moila Shrine Temple of St. Joseph and Omega Shrine Club of Cameron. He was a past patron of the Hamilton O.E.S., member of the Hamilton American Legion Post No. 285, and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Hines was a former member and past president of the Hamilton Rotary Club and Hamilton Board of Education. For 20 years, he volunteered his services as secretary and treasurer of the Highland Cemetery Corporation of Hamilton.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jean; one son, Ron Hines of Carterville, Ill.; one daughter, Barbara McDaniel of Raymore; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
