Mesha Michelle Barnes, 21, of Huxley, Iowa died Friday, March 31. A memorial service was held April 6 at noon at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. The body was cremated and burial will be at a later date.

Mesha was born March 23, 1985, in Trenton, Mo. She became a certified nurse’s aid at the age of 16 and worked at various nursing homes in Story County. She was a 2003 graduate of Ames High School. She continued her education graduating from Mercy School of Nursing in August 2005. She strived and achieved to become a third-generation registered nurse in her family. She was extremely proud of this accomplishment. She was employed at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines and was a member of American Legion Post No. 37 Auxiliary. She had a caring heart and was a loving person who enjoyed helping others.

She is survived by her mother Michelle Barnes and fiancé, Gordon Sheeder, her younger brother, Cody and little sister, Macie, all of Nevada; her father, Douglas (Kyle) Barnes of Trenton, Mo.; grandparents, Maggie and John Shomaker of Roland, Iowa, and Bill and Ruth Barnes of Trenton; aunts and uncles Monte Whetstone and Trish Wells of Ames, Iowa, Mike Whetstone and Pam and family of Edgerton, Kan., Bob and Sue Barnes and family of Trenton; Mike and Audrey Barnes and family of Kansas City, Mo., and Diane and Mike Moulin and family of Olathe, Kan.

She was met in heaven by her grandpa, Clint Whetstone, and two aunts, Lupi (Barbara) Whetstone and Lori Whetstone.

Her bright and loving smile will always remain a loving memory of our own Mesha, who we had for such a short time. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
