Gallatin varsity golfers hope to use Tuesday’s golf scores as a springboard to capturing that illusive first victory of the season. The Bulldogs lost to Lawson on Tuesday, but came away with their best team score of the season.
“Our 173 team total is our low for the season,” said GHS golf coach Chris Elbert. “It wasn’t enough to beat Lawson, a very good team, but it is a score that would allow us to compete with some of the teams we face,” he added. “Some of our golfers enjoyed personal low scores for the season, and hopefully can build on that.”
Dillon Bird paced the Bulldogs with a 40 on the Daviess County Country Club course. Andy Ward and Brandon Meseberg each shot 44 for Gallatin. Derrick McBroom carded a 45 and Ross Wood added a 46.
Lawson’s Jared King led his team to a 156 total with a round of 37.
Matt Pottorff led Gallatin jayvee golfers with a 45, followed by Robert Rhoades 50, Alex Critten 59, Bryce Carder 65 and Jon Youd 65.
The Bulldogs fell to Hamilton, 184 to 168, in dual action last Thursday at Daviess County Country Club. Hamilton’s Cale Brown beat Bird by five strokes, 36 to 41, to capture the medalist award, as the Hornets posted their lowest team total of the young season.
Ward led remaining GHS golfers with a 46, followed by Meseberg 48, McBroom 49 and Wood 52.
Rhoades posted a 49 to lead junior varsity efforts, followed by Lawson 56, Carder 58, Critten 61, Pottorff 62, Youd 62, Esbeck 63 and Merrigan 68.
GHS varsity golfers will compete in the Plattsburg Tournament on Thursday, and will travel to Sedalia on Monday for the Sacred Heart Tournament.
