Harmon appeared in Clinton County Circuit Court today (Wednesday), where he was sentenced to life without parole, as required by law, for first degree murder; 15 years for kidnaping, which is the maximum sentence allowed; and 50 years for armed criminal action. All sentences will run consecutively. The case was prosecuted by Julia Filley, Daviess County Prosecutor, and Robert Ahsens III, assistant Missouri attorney general.
The Clinton County jury convicted Harmon on Feb. 22, 2006, in the Aug. 3, 2004, kidnaping and murder of Steven Lawrence Jr. near Pattonsburg. The verdict was returned in three hours.
Brandon Anderson of Pat- tonsburg faces identical charges for the murder. A four-day jury trial has been set to begin on Oct. 16, 2006.
Frank Flanders, convicted of robbery first degree and armed criminal action in a Daviess County jury trial held March 3, 2006, received a life sentence for robbery first degree and a 10-year sentence for armed criminal action. The sentences will run consecutively.
The sentencing occurred yesterday during Law Day proceedings in Daviess County, heard by Judge Stephen Griffin. Flanders will be eligible for parole at some point.
The jury found Flanders, 31, guilty of the Aug. 18, 2004, armed robbery of the Gallatin Casey’s Store after 14 minutes of deliberation. The case was prosecuted by Julia Filley, Daviess County Prosecuting Attorney.
An accomplice in the crime, Michael Love, plead guilty to second degree robbery in November 2004. He served 120 days of a 15-year prison sentence and was released on five years probation in March 2005.
