FEC identified usage issues within the district that might assist in reducing costs, and also offered to assist the district in taking steps to reduce costs for the facility.
Board members also heard an energy audit report from Ray Blakely. Mr. Blakely told the board the current rates for the district were appropriate and that the school needed to start addressing some issues pertaining to usage to decrease the district’s cost. Mr. Blakely also offered to assist the district with reducing costs according to usage.
"The district discussed putting in a meter to help identify when the school is getting close to peak demand and turn some things off within the building to keep from reaching that peak demand," said R-2 Superintendent Wendell Burns.
The board entered into executive session to discuss personnel issues. After returning to open session the board voted to offer the position of elementary principal to Richard Collier for the 2006-2007 school year.
The board also voted to offer a contract for special education instructor to Darlene Conover, and for sixth grade teacher to Jennifer Adkison for next school year.
Teaching contracts were offered to both certified and non-certified personal along with extra duty contracts.
The board heard a second reading of policies and adopted new policies as presented.
The board reviewed the athletic program and voted to put the football program on hold until circumstances change. The school doesn’t have the number of students needed in order to participate, Mr. Burns said. And due to the lateness of the school year, not enough schools could be identified that had games to participate in.
Elementary principal reported 82 students in kindergarten though sixth grade, 10 in preschool, and an attendance rate of 91.84%.
High school principal reported 88 students in seventh through 12th grade and an attendance rate of 97.3%.
The board approved the summer school application.
The calendar of events was reviewed and approved.
The board also reviewed and approved the food service report and the curriculum report.
The date for reorganization of the board was set for 7 p.m. on April 6.
Next board meeting was set for April 19.
