North Daviess R-3 Board of Education offered a superintendent’s contract to Julie Kirby.
After returning from executive session of their regular meeting held March 13, the North Daviess R-3 Board of Education offered a superintendent’s contract to Julie Kirby. The present superintendent, Todd Willhite, has accepted a position as superintendent at Salisbury. The board also voted to increase High School Principal Kristi Critten’s salary by $75 per month.
The board has not yet made a decision regarding the elementary principal position, Mr. Willhite said. The school may opt for a lead teacher position.
The council agreed to retain all tenured teachers, except Ms. Pyles, during Monday’s meeting. Ms. Pyles is a tenured teacher planning to retire, but still wanting to work half time. She was offered a contract, not to exceed 550 hours.
Contracts were offered to the following teachers: Kim Fish; Glenn Hayes (6-1); Claire Holecko; Julie Leathers; Becky Morris (6-0 and 1-abstain); Clell Porter (motion failed 2-5); Jeff Rush (6-1); Judy Slaughter; and Dan Weese (6-1).
The board accepted the resignation of Jennifer Garten effective Feb. 23 and motioned to pay her insurance benefit for March and April (6-1). According to Mrs. Garten’s resignation letter, her decision to resign is due to severe injuries sustained in a car accident on Feb. 10.
In other business, the financial statement was presented by Mr. Willhite and bills were paid as presented.
During citizen communications, the board discussed the direction for the school in the near future.
Bobbie Pyles, elementary guidance counselor, made a presentation on the Missouri Comprehensive Model Guidance Program.
Mr. Willhite presented a report outlining projected state revenue for 2005-2006 and 2006-2007. The reports included a discussion of the new formula and how different factors in the new formula would affect North Daviess.
The following programs were approved as presented: Food Service; Program Evaluation: CSIP; Library Media Center; and Title I and Gifted.
The school will solicit bids for the mowing of school grounds.
During administrative reports, Mr. Willhite reported on storm damage suffered at the high school and on the Annual Meeting of MOSIP.
A motion carried to grant North Daviess’ proxy to the MOSIP Board of Directors to vote on its behalf in the election of its directors and upon any other matters that properly come before the meeting.
Ms. Kirby reported on the elementary Internet and elementary basketball. Ms. Critten reported on the Science Fair at the high school.
Next board meeting was set for 7 p.m. on Monday, April 10, in the elementary lunchroom in Coffey.
