Newton County Prosecuting Attorney Scott Watson has been named treasurer of the Missouri Prosecuting Attorneys Association.

Watson, son of David and Velma Watson of Gallatin, will serve a one-year term before being promoted to secretary, vice president and president, respectively.

Officers in the group led members in statewide training conferences and provide input in deciding which legislation prosecutors pursue and support.

“I look forward to sharing my experience with other prosecutors statewide,” Watson said. “I often called members of this board when I was first starting out 16 years ago, and they had already experienced what I was just learning. Experience is a most valuable asset in this job.

“Coupled with the MADD awards, this has been a good year for the people in my office. Without my competent staff, none of this would have occurred.”

Last year, Watson was named MADD’s Prosecutor of the Year for the second time in his career. He credits the Mann family – victims in the case of State vs. Edward Meerwald – along with Jim and Jane Murray’s support for that honor.
