Pattonsburg Rescue and Fire Protection District has issued a No Open Burn Ban effective Feb. 27, 2006, until further notice. Pattonsburg City Hall said they had a field fire Saturday, Feb.25, west of town, near the hog farms.

A fire spread through a stubbled corn field Friday afternoon several miles north of McFall. According to Derek Brown of the Albany Fire Department, there have been several grass fires in the area around Albany, King City and Stanberry.

Firefighters were primarily concerned that houses and outbuildings were threatened by Friday’s fire. They fought the fire by hand, water and with back fires and no buildings were damaged. The water tower for Gentry County Public Water Supply District #1 was blackened by the smoke.

Mr. Brown said most likely the fire was caused by a cigarette thrown out of a vehicle.
