Members from the Gallatin FCCLA Chapter competed in Regional STAR Events in Trenton on Feb. 7. Student judges from Gallatin were Addy Gann and Kara Kloepping. Katie Patton attended as a State Officer assisting with tallying scoring sheets. To advance to State, STAR Events participants must receive a top gold or the second top gold in their category.
Members who competed include: Parliamentary Procedure, Jr. — Gold: Wren Tolen: president; Sydney Elbert: secretary; Taylor Porter: treasurer; Nicole Everman, Kayle Hefley, Tye Humphrey and Abbey Ray. Parliamentary Procedure Team, Sr. — Gold: Ayrica Batson: president; Kathryn Everly: secretary; Emily Michener: treasurer; Kinsey Batson, Hannah Huffman and Jon Youd. Focus on Children, Sr. — Silver: Sarah Cornett and Shalyn Lollar. Illustrated Talk, Sr. — Bronze: Melissa Everman and Jennifer Guffey.
State FCCLA officer, Katie Patton visited Jefferson City on Feb. 8, to witness the signing of a proclamation declaring the week of the Feb 6-10 as National Teen Dating Violence Awareness Week. Locally, the GHS FCCLA chapter will be taking a part in increasing awareness on teen dating violence during their designated FCCLA Week.
On Wednesday Feb. 15, the chapter will be passing out ink pens to the student body featuring the National Domestic Violence Hotline phone number, announcing teen dating violence statistics throughout the day, and showing a DVD to the family and consumer sciences classes that features teens talking about their personal experiences with teen dating violence.
National FCCLA Week is Feb. 13-17. Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America is a national student organization with the family as its central focus. Through FCCLA, members gain leadership skills and benefit their family, future careers and their community by being involved.
GHS is celebrating FCCLA Week by: Tuesday: Data Match Day- students will participate in the Data Match Survey; Wednesday: Teacher Appreciation/Dating Violence Awareness Day- members will host a special lunch with FBLA for teachers and staff members in the FACS room, and for Dating Violence Awareness Day see related article; Thursday: FCCLA T-Shirt/Member Appreciation Day- members will receive a special treat in honor of their dedication to FCCLA; and Friday: Steal My Heart Day.
