The new DSL service is expected to begin this spring
Alltel, the communications company which provides telephone service to Daviess County has announced plans to offer high speed internet service (DSL) to communities serviced by Alltel fiber optic lines. This will be a significant improvement for both download and upload speeds when compared to dial-up service.
The new DSL service is expected to begin this spring. Three communities in Daviess County will be offered DSL service: Gallatin, Jameson, and Pattonsburg. Other towns where Alltel will also offer the new service are Milan, Albany, Grant City and Allendale. Only customers within 3.5 cable miles of an Alltel fiber optic line will be offered service.
Some towns, such as Coffey, Winston and Union Star will not be offered DSL service because either the fiber optic lines are not available or the available fiber optic lines are not owned by Alltel.
Alltel will offer three different signup plans at competitive pricing. Customers purchasing DSL service through Alltel will be billed for the service on their normal monthly phone bills.
High speed internet allows for improved service especially when watching streaming video, downloading music, playing games, etc. Both voice and data travel on a fiber optic phone line, so you can send and receive calls or faxes while you’re online. No second phone line is needed.
Work to initiate DSL locally could start as early as April 1. More details about Alltel’s new DSL internet service will follow.
