The charged-up Trenton boys made all the right moves Tuesday night against Gallatin in the opening round of the Hamilton Tournament. Trenton, the #6 seed, hustled its way to a stunning 58-32 upset victory and sent the GHS boys tumbling into the consolation bracket for the second time in as many tournaments.
On the girls side of the bracket, Gallatin started slow but quickly drew the upper hand against Lathrop and swept to a 45-26 win that advances the Lady Bulldogs to Thursday’s semifinal round.
Courtney Ray led a balanced GHS scoring attack with 12 points. Trisha Sprague added 11 and Kinsey Batson contributed nine for the Lady Bulldogs, who face a rematch with #2 seeded Richmond at 7:30 on Thursday.
Errors, forced and unforced, doomed the efforts of Gallatin’s boys from the start. Trenton choked passing lanes with a half-court, zone trap and forced Gallatin into 14 first-half turnovers. The THS Bulldogs sprinted from a 9-9 first quarter tie to a 22-9 advantage with a 13-0 run in the second period.
Brett Wilkinson led Gallatin with 10 points, followed by Dillon Bird with nine – all on three-point shots. Trenton held top-scorers Nic Burrell (20 ppg) and Andrew Adkison (19 ppg) to a combined 10 points.
The Bulldogs will take on Lathrop, which narrowly lost to #2 Richmond, at 9 p.m. Thursday for the right to move into Friday’s 6:30 consolation final.
Tonight’s (Wednesday) HIT action features a pair of winner’s bracket games. Hamilton’s top-seeded girls face Trenton at 7:30 p.m. West Platte’s top-seeded boys take on South Harrison at 6 p.m. Thursday’s other semifinal contest pits Trenton against #2 Richmond at 6 p.m.
