Funeral services for Ernest Smith were held Saturday at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Burial was at the Mt. Ayr Cemetery in Altamont. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gallatin Senior Center.
Ernest D. Smith, 77, Bethany, formerly of Hamilton, died Jan. 18, 2006, at a local hospital.
Mr. Smith was born on May 7, 1928, in Gallatin to Ernie and Lula (Teel) Smith.
He was a veteran of the Army. After his enlistment he returned home to live in Hamilton.
On July 6, 1948, he married his wife of 52 years, Thelma (Murray) Smith. She died in October of 2000.
Mr. Smith worked on the farm as well as for MFA Agri-Services in Hamilton for over 30 years. He retired in 1986.
Mr. Smith was a member of the Assembly of God Church in both Hamilton and Gallatin.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Dean Smith.
Survivors include one daughter, Martha Kiepert of Omaha, Neb.; one brother, Lyle Smith of St. Joseph; one sister, Juanita Stevens of Warsaw; and one granddaughter.
