The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports seven people died during the New Year’s holiday counting period from 6 p.m. on Friday, De. 30, 2005 to 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 2, 2006.

During this year’s 78-hour counting period, the Patrol investigated 220 traffic crashes, which included 81 injuries and six of the fatalities. The other fatality was investigated by the St. Louis City Police Department. Troopers also arrested 151 people for driving while intoxicated.
In 2005, troopers arrested 121 people for driving while intoxicated. During the 2005 New Year’s holiday counting period, 12 people died in traffic crashes.
Captain Johnnie B. Hoggatt, Commanding Officer of Troop H in St. Joseph reported that Troop H had a total of 10 crashes and seven injuries during the New Year holiday. Troopers also made eight arrests for driving while intoxicated in Troop H. The most active day was Jan. 1, when five crashes occured along with five injuries. Four motorists were also arrested for driving while intoxicated on that day.
