Dr. James Robert Barton, 68, Coeur d’Alene, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, while vacationing with his family in Molokai, Hawaii.

Funeral services for Dr. James Barton were held Friday in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The family prefers memorials to the NIC Foundation, 1000 W. Garden Ave., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, 83814.

Dr. James Robert Barton, 68, Coeur d’Alene, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, while vacationing with his family in Molokai, Hawaii.

Dr. Barton was born April 18, 1937, in Gallatin, to James L. and Marjorie (Scott) Barton. He attended the University of Missouri and met his future wife, Christine McDaniel, while working summers in Yellowstone National Park. They were married on Aug. 24, 1961, in Pocatello, Idaho.

Upon graduation, Dr. Barton became a high school chemistry teacher, a biologist for the Atomic Energy Commission in Southern Idaho, and served in the Army Reserves. He attended the University of Missouri School of Dentistry in Kansas City from 1961-1956 and specialized in orthodontics the next two years.

He and his wife moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1967 where he practiced orthodontics until 1999.

Dr. Barton served on the North Idaho College Board of Trustees for 18 years.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Christine; two sons, Jeff Barton of San Francisco, Calif., and Jim Barton of Sandpoint, Idaho; one daughter, Christina Edmundson of Post Falls, Idaho; one sister, LuAnn Briggs of Millersville, Md.; one brother, Jack Barton of Gallatin; and four grandchildren.
