Jewel Orr, 85, passed away Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005 at North Kansas City Hospital. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday evening, Jan. 2, 2006 at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Private inurnment will be held at Lake Viking Cemetery. Memorials in memory of Jewel may be made to the Hanson Family Adoption Fund.

Jewel was born Oct. 5, 1920 to Claude and Winnie (Bradley) Braden in Grundy County, Missouri. She attended school in Unionville, and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1937. After high school Jewel attended William Jewell College where she received her teaching degree. Jewel began teaching for the New York School District at the Liberty Bell School in Caldwell County. In October, 1944 Jewel was united in marriage to Hays Hiatt. He preceded her in death in October of 1982. Hays and Jewel operated the Gallatin Livestock Auction from 1958 to 1962, where Jewel worked in the office and ran the restaurant. The Hiatt’s moved to Neosho in 1963 where they owned and operated the sale barn. Inn 1964 they relocated to Brookfield where they operated the Allis Chalmers dealership. Jewel was active in the business maintaining books and taking care of customers. In the late 1960s they moved to Bethany where Jewel received her Real Estate license and began to sell real estate. In 1970 they moved to Kimberling City and carried on with the real estate business retiring in 1974. Jewel moved to Independence in 1980 to be near her family. She was united in marriage to Leonard Orr in 1990 in Hamilton. Leonard and Jewel moved to Lake Viking to enjoy their retirement. Jewel was of the Protestant faith.

Jewel was preceded in death by her brothers, Gordon, Oris, Keith and Emerson, and sisters, Dorothy and Celeste and son Jim Hiatt.

Survivors include husband Leonard Orr of the home, daughter, Jill Hiatt Kinder and husband Jim, Gallatin, grandchildren, Lauri Phillips, Jim Hanson, Missy Comfort, and Matt Hiatt, great-grandchildren, Megan Cramer, Monica and Ty Hanson, Braden and Blaise Phillips and Jacob Comfort.
