Russell Hamilton, pastor of Gallatin First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), recently received an award recognizing his dedicated work in ministry. Pastor Hamilton was chosen to receive the “John Bennett Award for Meritorious Ministry in Church and Community,” from the Missouri School of Religion Center for Rural Ministry in Jefferson City. This was the fist year the award for “unsung heroes” in ministry was given.

Disciples of Christ clergy and laity were eligible for the award that recognizes persons who have contributed to the revitalization and renewal of congregations; have exhibited moral courage in addressing critical issues; exhibited compassion and care in congregation and community ministry; who have started new and innovative ministries; committed their time, talents, gifts or service to a local ministry; and given visionary leadership in congregational ministry.

Pastor Hamilton began serving First Christian Church in June, 2004. He is a graduate of Cainsville High School; Missouri Western State University; and the Missouri School of Religion. His parents, Leonard and Karen Hamilton, were long-time residents of Harrison County and now reside in Leon, Iowa.
