Missouri citizens are taking lead roles around the state as planning for the state’s future transportation system gets underway. The Missouri Department of Transportation is hosting the first in a series of locally held regional work group meetings to discuss statewide needs, transportation trends and conditions, and opportunities for improvements to Missouri’s transportation policies and strategies. The meeting for the Northwest Regional Work Group is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Bank Midwest building, 304 North Walnut Street, Cameron.

The 16-person advisory group is made up of a cross-section of business people, farmers and interested persons who have volunteered their time to assist MoDOT in planning our long-range future. The public is invited to attend and observe the meeting. A question and answer period will follow.
This meeting is part of the Missouri Advance Planning initiative, or MAP, which is the beginning of a statewide dialogue on what the state’s transportation system could and should do for its citizens and how best to fulfill those expectations and potential. This initiative will reduce Missouri’s transportation vision and will provide the building blocks for developing a shared action plan identifying the role we all play in creating the transportation system we want and deserve.
“When Missouri voters overwhelmingly approved Amendment #3 last November, they sent a clear message to state leaders: Improve our transportation system sooner rather than later, and we’re doing just that,” said MoDOT director Pete Rahn. “But what happens next <197> we need a sound, broadly supported and widely understood long-term plan for meeting Missouri’s transportation needs.”
Interested persons with questions about the meetings or comments about the MAP initiative should contact MoDOT’s local district offices at 1-888-ASK MODOT (275-6636) or the project manager, Eric Curtit, at (573) 751-6775, e-mail [email protected]. Meeting agendas, regional working groups’ membership lists and maps of the regions, public comment opportunities and additional information are available on the MAP website at www.mapourfuture.org.
