Jayce Tingler, a 1999 Smithville High School graduate, was picked up by the Texas Rangers in the Triple A Rule 5 draft held on Dec. 8.

A former baseball standout at the University of Missouri, Tingler spent last season with the Toronto Blue Jays Class A affiliate in Dunedin, Florida, where he batted .265 with three triples and one home run. He had 123 hits in 465 at bats, with 16 doubles and an on-base percentage of .353. He struck out only 31 times and walked 53 times.

Minor leaguers not protected on the reserve lists at the AA and A levels may be selected by another team in the Rule 5 draft. Tingler was protected on the Blue Jays Triple A roster, but was moved to the Double A roster prior to the Rule 5 draft.

Jayce has been put on the roster of the Triple A Oklahoma City Redhawks, which play as close as Omaha and Des Moines.

Tingler is the son of Steve and Diana Tingler of Smithville, and is the grandson of Charles and Dolleta Burrell of Kingston, and Betty and the late Jack Tingler of Jameson. Jayce is also the nephew of Gallatin R-5 principal Mike Burrell.
