As we are approaching the upcoming Christmas season and the New Year that follows, I find myself reflecting back my past year with MU Extension. It has definitely been an eventful one that included much variety and enjoyment.

When I first took this position, I didn’t really know what Extension did besides offering the 4-H program. I soon learned that Extension delivers programs in many different areas including Agriculture and Natural Resources, Community Development, Food and Nutrition, and Human Development just to name a few. Basically, if there is a need in the community, then I am sure Extension has a program that can address it.

I helped out with many of these different programs throughout the Northwest Region. In addition to helping with Farm Safety events, Field Days, and a Master Gardener program I also got to enjoy 4-H Camp, Water Festivals, and Ag Update Days. When I wasn’t spending time on programs, I would often times be working on projects and questions that individuals would bring into the office. I couldn’t even start to categorize the types of questions I received – everything from identifying bugs to helping design a hog facility. Needless to say, this job has been very interesting and satisfying.

With all that being said, I need to let you all know of my resignation from the University of Missouri Extension. I have a wonderful opportunity that I felt I could not afford to pass up. After much thought and consideration, my wife and I agreed that this is the direction we need to go.

I want to thank each of you personally for giving me the opportunity to work in such a great environment. I am leaving my employment with MU Extension with very positive thoughts and feelings and remain thankful for our association.

I would like to think that I have had a positive impact in Daviess County and the surrounding Northwest region over the past year. I know that I have learned so much and have the utmost respect and appreciation for each of you.

My last day of employment will be Jan. 31, 2006. I am confident that Daviess County Extension will continue to thrive in the future.

Sincerely,

Craig Smith
