Gallatin varsity basketball teams opened the season Tuesday night with mixed success at East Buchanan. The Lady Bulldogs captured the evening’s opener, 56-50, but the GHS boys fell, 81-42, in the nightcap.
The Lady Bulldogs held off an EB rally in the fourth quarter after taking a 42-30 lead into the period. East Buchanan outscored Gallatin, 20-14, down the stretch but could not pull off a home victory. Gallatin used a 22-8 second quarter advantage to build a comfortable lead at the break.
Trisha Sprague led a balanced GHS scoring attack with 13 points. Courtney Ray canned 9 points, Taylor Henderson and Maria Burge each added 8.
Gallatin’s boys, with barely a week’s worth of practice time under their belts, trailed from the start as the home, blue and gold Bulldogs padded their lead in every quarter. Nic Burrell tossed in 13 points to lead Gallatin. Andrew Adkison added 12.
