Funeral services for Opal Steel were held at the First Baptist Church in Chillicothe on Sunday. Arrangements were by the Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Burial was in Shelburne Cemetery, Trenton. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or Hedrick Medical Center Home Health Hospice and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
Opal Steele, 87, Chillicothe, died at her residence on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005.
Mrs. Steel was born on Jan. 8, 1918, the daughter of Charley and Ora (Maxey) Dockery in Grundy County.
On Feb. 23, 1935, at Excelsior Springs, she was married to Orville “O.C.” Steel. He survives of the home. The had lived in the Grundy and Livingston County Areas since 1945, moving from Chicago, Ill.
Mrs. Steele was a homemaker and was also the cafeteria manager of Central School for over 20 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Chillicothe, and Woodmen of the World.
She was preceded in death by eight brothers, and two sisters.
Other survivors include one son, Wayne Steel of Chillicothe; two daughters, Barbara Wilford of Trenton, and Gloria Simmer of Chillicothe; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
