All veterans invited to Veterans Day Breakfast

American Legion Post #68 and VFW Post #2172 invites all veterans for breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11, at the Corner Café.

R-5 Band and 7th graders to honor veterans

A ceremony to honor our veterans living and deceased will be held at the cannon, on the lawn of the Daviess County Courthouse at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11. Cali Welch, seventh grade class president, will lead the ceremony with the help of 12 other 7th graders. Also performing will be the Gallatin R-5 Band. They will play several selections to honor our veterans, as well as the “Star Spangled Banner.” The ceremony will conclude with “Taps” by seventh grader John Corwin.

Nancy Garnett and Gene Edwards, coordinators of the ceremony, invite the community to come and join them in a morning to honor our veterans.

R-2 STUCO holds Veteran’s Day assembly

The Pattonsburg High School Student Council will be having a Veteran’s Assembly in the school’s gym on Friday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m., lasting until 11 a.m.

All veterans and spouses are welcome. Refreshments and social time will be provided from 9-10 a.m. in the school cafeteria.

If anyone has a picture or war memorabilia from Pattonsburg area veterans that the school could display during the Veteran’s Day assembly, please contact Katie Thompson at 367-2111, extension 240, or the Student Council President Andrew Hulet.

In conjunction with the Veteran’s Day assembly, the school will be celebrating Missouri Military History Month by participating in the “Power of 11 Cents” project. Each student kindergarten through sixth grade will be asked to bring 11 cents and each student grades seven through 12th will be asked to bring $1.11 to donate to the Missouri Military Family Relief Fund to help the families of the Missouri National Guard and Reserves who faced unexpected financial difficulties as a result of deployment to protect the freedoms that define the United States of America.

Donations will be collected at the Veteran’s Day assembly. Please send your child’s donation to school on Friday, Nov. 11, so he/she can be a part of this fine cause.

R-3 honors veterans with blood drive

North Daviess R-3 students will have Veteran’s Day off. The school will be holding a blood drive in honor of veterans on that day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants will receive a red bracelet signifying give blood/give life and a chance to win an Ipod Shuffle.

Anyone wishing to donate blood may come in that day or register ahead of time by calling the school at 828-4123.

Tri-County R-7 will serve breakfast for veterans, songs and hymns planned, Mike Forts to speak

Tri-County R-7 will serve breakfast for any veteran or guest starting at 8:15 a.m. in the high school cafeteria. Guest speaker Mike Forts from Vietnam Veterans Association out of St. Joe will give a speech to the veterans during breakfast, titled “Freedom is Not Free.” During the breakfast, the elementary students will recite the Pledge of Allegiance and sing patriotic songs. The junior high choir will then sing the anthem of each branch of the service. At about 9 a.m., Mr. Forts will give a speech to all the high school and upper elementary grades in the new gym.
