City moves past CDBG closing on sewer system

City Administrator Zac Johnson commented about the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) closing for the new sewer system that was held last Thursday during the regular meeting of the Gallatin Board of Aldermen held Monday, Oct. 24. (USDA sewer bond closing was held on Sept. 30.) Mr. Johnson said the city is now able to apply for other block grant money through CDBG, such as demolition of old vacant houses. He stated that the sewer plant should be complete by Nov. 1 and training for the city employees on the new plant is set for Nov. 1.

Police Chief Mark Richards reported on activity from Oct. 11 to Oct. 24. Reports taken/Tickets given: 1-accident; 1-stealing; 1-resisting arrest; 3-speeding;1-leaving the scene of an accident. There are five dogs in the pound.

Chief Richards stated that the D.A.R.E. program will be getting started in Gallatin and possibly Pattonsburg in November.

The skateboard area was discussed. Chief Richards stated that the area was starting to get trashy again and he has seen some injuries occurring from skateboarding.

Bills in the amount of $11,915.91 were approved for payment.

An inquiry was made about patching holes on Grant Street. Mr. Johnson stated that the Street Department would be taking care of it.

A question arose as to who is supposed to repair holes left from the Natural Gas Company. Mr. Johnson will check into the matter.

The list of Park Board candidates was not given to the city. The appointment of a new Park Board member was tabled until the list is received.

During comments by aldermen, Pat Baker inquired if driveway tubes had to be of a certain size and about trimming a tree. She had complaints on not being able to see the stop sign at Water and Richardson and the penalty that is applied on utility bills.

Doyle Patton inquired if the burn ban had been lifted. Mayor Thomas stated that the ban is now lifted and burning is allowed.

Bob Snidow inquired if the state is going to reimburse the city for the drilling of new test holes for the new well. Mr. Johnson stated that “yes” the city would be reimbursed by the state.

Fanklin Archer wanted to know when the sewer system was going to be ready for hooking up to. Mr. Johnson stated that the sewer plant should be complete by Nov. 1. Mr. Archer also expressed his interest in being on the Park Board.

The board entered into closed session pursuant to legal actions and litigation and hiring, firing, discipline or promoting employees.
