Sewer project nearly complete

City Administrator Zac Johnson told the Gallatin Board of Aldermen during their regular meeting held Oct. 11 that construction on the sewer project is almost complete and should be finished before the end of the month. He said the sewer bond closing went as scheduled on Oct. 7. New sewer rates will start on the Jan. 1, 2006, utility bill.

Police Chief Richards reported on activity from Sept. 26 to Oct. 11. Reports Take: One – accident; One – warrant service; One – property damage; Two – tampering with motor vehicle; Two – animal abuse; Tickets Given: five speeding; Five dogs in the pound.

Chief Richards stated the skate board park is looking much better, although he is yet to hear from anyone in reference to setting up a board to oversee the area. Chief Richards also stated he had been in contact with the schools regarding the safety of kids walking to and from school.

Bills in the amount of $121,059.74 were approved for payment.

Sewer bills in the amount of $81,304 were approved for payment.

After first and second reading the board passed a motion to approve an ordinance authorizing the execution and delivery of a municipal lease agreement (Farmers Bank of Northern Missouri Bank Lease) and other documents and agreements in connection therewith.

During public comment Carla Arnold commented on the publicizing of city business and the procedures used in changing ordinances. Tina Marshall had questions concerning tree limb pick-up.

During comments by aldermen, Bob Snidow commented on the amount of time allowed for public comment, which is currently five minutes. He also had a complaint about the location of a dumpster.

Pat Baker commented on the sidewalks around the square; a possible streetlight; and asked about street patching on Grant Street.

Gene Caldwell had concerns about the affect of the sewer project on individual lawns.

Mayor John Thomas had concerns about an individual’s driveway located along one of the repaired streets. Mr. Johnson said he would have the Street Department look into the problem. Mayor Thomas also commented on the need for removal of old garage sale signs.
