The first of three P.A.L.S. meetings was held at the elementary school on Oct. 4. Parents Actively Learning Skills is a program offered to kindergarten parents wishing to learn more about literacy. Students are actively engaged in activities while teachers model learning strategies for parents.

Kindergarten teachers, the kindergarten PLUS teacher, and speech pathologist presented the sessions. Additional elementary teachers also helped with the program. Topics included Humpty Dumpty Letter Match, Create a Spider Snack, Nursery Rhyme Bingo, Little Bo Peep Lost Her ABC’s, and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Sort. Materials needed for one of the sessions were provided by Bethany Hy-Vee.

Twenty-seven families were represented at the meeting and each kindergarten student received a free book. Educational handouts were available for the parents. The next meeting is Monday, Nov. 7. Pictured is Mother Goose sharing nursery rhymes with the kindergarten children.
