Hollis A. Bulyar, Jr., 82, died Sept. 26, 2005, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Olathe, Kan.
Funeral services for Hollis Bulyar, Jr. were held Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home, Olathe, Kan. A memorial service will be held at the Lake Viking Church near Gallatin. The date will be announced in October. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Missions Program of First Baptist Church, 11019 W. Peoria Ave., Sun City, Ariz., 85351.
Hollis A. Bulyar, Jr., 82, died Sept. 26, 2005, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Olathe, Kan.
Mr. Bulyar was born June 26, 1923, on a farm located three miles north of Tindall. His parents were Hollis A. Bulyar, Sr., and Josephine Morris Bulyar.
Mr. Bulyar was a Navy veteran of WWII, serving on the USS Saratoga. He saw considerable combat action in the South Pacific, and was a member of the occupational forces in Japan following the war.
Mr. Bulyar lived in the Kansas City are for 34 years. He retired from the US Department of Energy in 1980 with 31 years of federal service.
On March 11, 1943, he married Mary Mills of Jamesport in Kansas City. Following retirement, he and his wife lived at Lake Viking near Gallatin, where they were charter members of the Lake Viking Church, and helped with construction of its building. In 1995 they moved to Sun City, Ariz., where they lived until Mary’s death in 2001.
Mr. Bulyar moved to Olathe, Kan., in 2001 to live with his daughter, Carolyn, and son-in-law, Tim. In January 2005, he moved to Good Samaritan Nursing Home.
He was a member of the Ocheltree Baptist Church, Spring Hill, Kan.
He was also preceded in death by seven sisters and brothers, Mildred, Charles, Chester, Morris, Lester, Ethelyn, Harold, and a half-brother, William Dunn.
Survivors include two sons, Donald of Trail Creek, Ind., and Gary of Murphy, N.C; one daughter, Carolyn Aranjo of Olathe, Kan.; one sister, Leatha Lamar of Raytown; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
