Credential in recognition of her outstanding work with young children.
Kelly Huffman of Gallatin has been awarded the Child Development Associate Preschool (CDA)
Credential in recognition of her outstanding work with young children. The credential was awarded by
the Council for Professional Recognition in Washington, D.C., which represents the early childhood
profession.
The CDA program is the only major national effort to improve child care by evaluating and recognizing
the skills of individuals providing care. The first credential was awarded 25 years ago. Today there are
more than 140,000 CDA credentialed caregivers working in child care throughout the United States.
Forty-six states plus the District of Columbia incorporate the CDA Credential into their child care
licensing regulations.
In an age when both parents of an increasing number of children are working outside the home, finding
an environment in which children will receive more than basic maintenance has grown in importance.
With this in mind, as part of the CDA assessment process, every candidate working for the CDA
credential is observed working with young children or families by an early childhood professional. In
addition, the candidate must demonstrate the ability to work with families to develop children’s physical
and intellectual capabilities in a safe and healthy learning environment.
Kelly is employed as a Teacher Aide at the Green Hills Head Start Gallatin Center.
