Mary Lou Searcy, a retired elementary teacher from the Covel D. Searcy School system, was recognized on Sept. 7 at the Missouri Retired Teacher Association Annual Meeting in Columbia as the “Distinguished Retiree of the Year” for region one.

Mrs. Search was recognized for her 32 years of teaching in Missouri public and rural school. She taught 25 years in Gallatin. Tommy McDaniels, a Jameson native and educator in the Gilman City School District, nominated Mrs. Searcy for the award.

The local Missouri Retired Teacher Association unit is one of 123 across the state that gives educators the opportunity to gather with other retired educators. The 16,000 plus members is the largest education association in Missouri.
