The 1139th National Guard Military Police unit out of Harrisonville and Moberly have been called for duty at New Orleans. They left Friday, Sept. 2, and will be there a month or longer. Matthew Gordon, son of Cindy Gordon and the late Bill Gordon of Amsterdam and grandson of Wilma Gordon and the late Bill Gordon of Gallatin, is a member of the unit.

Matt’s unit had four months of homeland security guarding ammunitions plants around the Midwest in 2002. Matt served in Baghdad beginning in May of 2003. Matt was inured July 12, 2003, and received the purple heart. His unit came home Jan. 16, 2004.
