A young Gilman City man, Lennon Ruch, 28, was fatally injured in a one-vehicle accident at about midnight on Tuesday, Aug. 30, according to a report by the Missouri Highway Patrol. A passenger in the vehicle, Jimmy Neff, 32, Independence, was taken by Life Flight Eagle to KU Medical Center with serious injuries.
The accident occurred as Mr. Ruch was westbound on Route P about 2.8 miles east of Jameson. His vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a ditch, then overturned several times. The vehicle came to rest on its top and also caught fire. Both Mr. Ruch and Mr. Neff were ejected. Neither were wearing their seat belts.
Mr. Ruch was pronounced dead at the scene by Daviess County Coroner David McWilliams.
The accident was investigated by Cpl. P.M. Kimball, assisted by Sgt. M.A. Ott and the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department.
