Shafer, Kline & Warren presented the Pattonsburg Board of Aldermen with a bid for their requested survey during the council’s regular meeting held Wednesday, Aug. 10. The proposal covers the survey, platting, and the layout of water and sewer lines, along with the necessary permits required by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The board initially voted to table the matter in order to have more time to review the proposal. Later in the meeting, after the council reviewed the survey matter a little further, the board decided to tentatively accept the survey and platting of the land in question.
Wally and Allison Sperry asked about the cost of lots. They are interested in purchasing more land. They also asked if the city would allow the removal from other lots to improve their own. The council stated that the improvement of lots was the responsibility of the land owner. The council said the city would get back with the Sperrys after the survey is completed for a price on the lots.
The city council presented the school board with an agreement for the maintenance for the ball field and other facilities. The agreement is to be signed at the next school board meeting.
Benny Sprague, Wendall Burns and Jeff Bowland represented the Pattonsburg R-2 School. The council and school discussed a separation of duties and cost of projects. Both the city and the school expressed concern about getting the park board members together to discuss any maintenance problems or requests. This is difficult to do, as the park board does not meet on a monthly and/or regular basis. A motion carried for the city to work with the park board and determine if it would be easier for the school to bring standard maintenance and upkeep concerns directly to the city council. This would be in regard only to the portion of the park which contains the ball field, and would deal only with maintenance or repair matters. Any major additions or alternations of the ball park complex, and all other park concerns, would require the action of the park board.
The board voted to extend the lease with Mr. Teel for the 2006-2007 year. The city will also notify Mr. Teel of the possible sale of some of the hay ground.
The council discussed the tax rate levy and carried a motion to set the tax rate at .97 for the 2005 year.
The city clerk reviewed the city’s minutes and ordinances and found nothing banning the sale of fireworks within city limits. The council will look into the correct procedure and policy for selling fireworks.
The bill from Vance Bros was discussed. The board carried a motion to pay $6,477.64 out of the General Fund, $45,000 out of the Street Fund, $6,477.64 out of the movie fund, $6,477.64 out of the General Reserve to pay the bill.
In the July minutes, the council included that they approved by telephone the contract for propane from MFA for the 2005-2006 year.
The above are the unapproved minutes of the regular meeting of the Pattonsburg Board of Aldermen at city hall on Aug. 10. Those in attendance were aldermen, Gene Walker, Barbara Streich, Leonard Barr, Dwight Schell; City Clerk Dana Cameron; Water Superintendent Eddy Meador; J. Russell from Shafer, Kline & Warren; Benny Sprague, Wendall Burns, Jeff Bowland; and Wally and Allison Sperry.
