Gallatin R-5 began school today (Wednesday) with a full day of classes.
Becky Adkison will teach 8-12 family and consumer sciences. Mrs. Adkison was born in Hamilton and graduated from Penney High School She received her B.S.ED. in family and consumer sciences and her M.S. ED. in teaching learning disabilities from Northwest Missouri State University. She student taught at Chillicothe and previously taught at Lathrop High School for two years and Trenton Middle for three years. She and her husband Brett have two children, Aidan, 3, and Ethan, 4 months. Brett is a maintenance worker at Crossroads Correctional Center.
High school librarian will be Margaret Prewitt. She will also teach the elementary library skills classes. Mrs. Prewitt was born in Marceline. She graduated from Northwestern High School at Mendon. She received her degree in French/library science from Truman State University. She previously taught at Englewood Christian Academy in Independence. Her husband Doug has a company that installs sound systems in churches and schools, and also remodels houses. They have two children, Caleb, a student at the University of Missouri at Columbia, and Jared, a student at William Jewell College in Liberty.
Language arts IV and speech for 11-12 will be taught by Karen Cox. Karen was born in Pittsburgh, Penn. She graduated from Seneva Valley High School. She received her degree in English from Tarkio College. She previously taught at Hamilton. Her husband David is in agri-business. They have one son, Ryan, 22.
Laurie A. Walton-Roll will be the fifth grade teacher’s aid. Laurie was born in Kirksville and graduated from Gallatin R-5 High School. She is presently attending classes at North Central Missouri College. This will be her first year working in education. Her husband David Jon is a paramedic for American Airlines, and supervisor field trainer for AMR in Independence. They have one child, Briar, 5, who will be attending kindergarten this year.
New teacher’s at Gallatin R-5 are Karen Cox, Margaret Prewitt and Becky Adkison.
