Gallatin graduate Melissa (Missy Stewart) Miller received her Masters Degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in science from the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Aug. 7. She finished her Masters with a 4.0 grade point average.

Melissa graduated from Gallatin High School in 1988 and was a 1992 Central Missouri State University graduate with a double major. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and one in Early Childhood Education. She is going on her 13th year of teaching.

Currently, she teaches kindergarten for the Scotland County R1 School District in Memphis, Mo. Since being in the Memphis system, she has been instrumental in developing and implementing their Reading First curriculum and has been active in their Community Teachers Association. She has served on the MSIP team at the local and state level and is a MAP trainer.

Melissa lives in rural Memphis with her husband, Gary Miller, who is the conservation agent for Scotland County, and their children Drew, 11, and Natalie 8. She is the daughter of Bonnie Stewart and the late Jerry Stewart.
