A report of a stolen vehicle in Altamont ended with the vehicle wrecked and a teenager being talked down from a Pattonsburg water tower on Aug. 8.

According to a report from the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department, at about 9:35 p.m. on Aug. 7, a blue 2000 Chevy S-10 Blazer was reported stolen from Worldwide Leasing in Altamont. At about 10 p.m., Deputy Todd Watson received reports that the stolen vehicle was being driven by a white female in the Pattonsburg area.

About a half hour later, Deputy Watson Deputy Kevin Lawson, Deputy Dan Bridgeman, Trooper Lynch, Trooper Griffin and several members of the Pattonsburg Fire Department and members of other law enforcement agencies who had been in the area on a training exercise, began searching the area for the stolen vehicle. A report then came in that a white female had been seen walking south on South Elm Street in Old Pattonsburg. The 20 or so members of the different law enforcement agencies continued searching for the female.

At about 10:50, Deputy Watson located the stolen vehicle wrecked on Lake Street in Old Pattonsburg. The vehicle had struck a tree and been left abandoned. The vehicle sustained extensive damage to the front end. It was towed by Tarepin Towing of Winston.

At around 11:46, the female was located by officers on top of the Old Pattonsburg water tower. A couple of hours later, negotiations were successful and the female was taken into custody. The white female was identified as a Daviess County resident, age 17. She is being detained in protective custody for a court order of mental evaluation. Charges are pending.
