Discussion was held on electric rates and the wholesale electric bill during the regular meeting of the Gallatin Board of Aldermen held Monday, Aug. 8. A motion was passed to add a surcharge onto all electric customers’ utility bills for the month of September.

“The city need to recoup a certain amount of money, but the final amount of the surcharge has not been determined yet,” said City Clerk Autumn Acree. “If we need to, we’ll spread out the amount of the surcharge over a three month period so that customers are not too heavily impacted.”

The 2005 tax rate hearing was held. No one present had any comments on the 2005 tax rate.

Roger Loxterman stated that the water conservation is still in effect. The water plant is running 22-23 hours per day. Normally it runs approximately 10 hours per day. The city is asking people to please conserve water to “household use only” so that further restrictions will not need to be enforced.

Abel Perez informed the board that he was resigning as police chaplain because he and his family are moving to Thayer, Mo.

Police Chief Mark Richards reported on activity from July 25 to Aug. 8. Reports Taken: three assaults; one burglary; two stealing from motor vehicle; two accidents; two attempted burglaries; two property damage; one possession of drug paraphernalia. There are five dogs in the pound.

Bills in the amount of $179,820.28 were approved for payment.

Discussion was held on making a ramp off of the street that is handicap accessible in front of city hall. Teddy Holcomb said that the street crew would work on this. City Clerk Acree informed the board that the handicap door for the city hall is set to be installed on Aug. 15.

Paul and Terry Pierce informed the board that they are wanting to close Market and Jackson streets around the courthouse for Relay for Life. The Relay for Life will start at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, and end at 6 a.m. on Aug. 20.

Discussion was held on the dog limitation ordinance. No action was taken.

Mayor Thomas and Roger Loxterman discussed the street repairs included in the sewer contract form Sterling Excavation.

A motion to pay sewer bills n the amount of $34,300 carried. A motion also carried to approve additional changes on the sewer project from Irvinbilt for the water plant facility in the amount of $7,575. The city administrator’s name on the signature cards at BTC Bank and Farmers Bank will be changed form Toby Dougherty to Zac Johnson.
