Since January 2004, the MU Plant Genomics Research Experience for Teachers (MUPGRET) has offered high school and middle school science teachers an opportunity to visit campus and attend a series of workshops covering all aspects of plant genomics. Participants in the 2005 MUPGRET Summer Series included Dennis Steigerwalt, Gallatin High School.
Funding from a National Science Foundation grant allows organizers to offer the workshop at no cost to participants. During six, two-day workshops in June, 15 high school science teachers from across Missouri converged on the MU campus for the summer workshop series. Both introductory and advanced workshops were offered and included lectures, tours and hands-on demonstrations.
