Elbert C. Dungy, 81, St. Joseph, died Monday, July 4, 2005, at the Sunset Home in Maysville, where he had been a patient for four days.
Funeral services for Elbert Dungy were held Thursday, July 7, at Bram Funeral Home of Maysville, with burial in the Oak Lawn Cemetery, Maysville. Memorial donations in Mr. Dungy’s name may be made to the Hands of Hope Hospice or Wyatt Park Christian Church of St. Joe, in care of Bram Funeral Home, Maysville.
Elbert C. Dungy, 81, St. Joseph, died Monday, July 4, 2005, at the Sunset Home in Maysville, where he had been a patient for four days.
Mr. Dungy was born on Feb. 6, 1924, to James I. and Mary Olive (Johnson) Dungy. He was a former resident of Maysville and attended the Grandview School at Berlin. For the past eight years, he had been a resident of St. Joseph.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army with seven of his brothers. His twin brother, Eldon, was killed during the war.
Mr. Dungy, a grocer, started his career working at Merrigan’s Market in Pattonsburg, and in 1963, he purchased Merrigan’s Market in Maysville. He retired in 1988.
He was a member of Wyatt Park Christian Church in St. Joseph.
On April 27, 1947, Elbert married Norma Gene Yost. She died on Dec. 26, 1970. On March 4, 1972, he married Phyllis McCoy Davis. She survives of the home in St. Joseph.
In addition to his parents; his brother, Eldon; and his first wife, Norma, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Erling, Bill, Bob, Drexel and J.P. Dungy.
Mr. Dungy is survived by his wife, Phyllis of the home; three sons, Bob of Maysville, Don of Dallas, Texas, and Ed of Richmond; three stepsons, Dennis Davis of Houston, Texas, Paul Davis of Portland, Ore., and Barry Davis of Leawood, Kan.; a daughter, Mary Schneider of Springfield; two stepdaughters, Dianne Utterback of Kansas City, and Marsha Davis of Richmond; two brothers, Dale Dungy of San Jose, Calif., Dwight Dungy of Marshalltown, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
