“A Cure is in the Cards” is the theme for the 2005 Daviess County Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society. This year’s relay is set to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, through 6 a.m. on the 20th.

Plans are underway to make this the most exciting relay yet. Some activities planned are a baby show; talent show; “queen contest”; live band; card games; silent basket auction; food; and much more.

It is not too late to form a team and get involved in Daviess County’s biggest card game. We welcome teams of all ages and everyone in Daviess County is encouraged to participate. Examples of teams are families, coworkers, church groups, neighbors, clubs, ball teams, etc. Teenagers, this is your chance to stay out all night, have fun with your friends, and not get the riot act for sleeping all day Saturday — so just form a team and join the relay.

Anyone wanting to get involved may call Paul and Terry Pierce at 663-3645, or come to the next meeting of the teams at the United Methodist Church in Gallatin at 6 p.m. on July 19.

Fly By insurance available for the Flying Flamingos

Flying Flamingo Insurance was recently approved by the Flying Flamingo Association (FFA for short). If a policy is purchased before the Daviess County Relay for Life on Aug. 19, you will be protected by all means possible from a flock of pink flamingos landing in your yard.

Purchase price is at your discretion, but to make it worth the paper it is written on, we suggest $25. This policy protects only your property located inside the Daviess County line.

If the Flying Flamingos should hear your name as a potential resting spot for the night and you have insurance, you will be contacted and given the opportunity to suggest another location for them to rest for the night.

If you are suggested a second time, you will again be called and given the opportunity to suggest another location for them to rest for the night.

If your home is suggested a third time, no insurance will stop the Flying Flamingos. After all, word of mouth is the best advertisement and you must have a great place to stay, and they will want to meet you.

There are a limited number of Flying Flamingo Policies available. If all policies are sold, it is possible that the Flying Flamingos will pass right over Daviess County and not even land. They are dedicated to raising money for the American Cancer Society Daviess County Relay for Life.

Flying Flamingo Insurance Policies may be purchased from Seasons: “Our Reason” team members; Rachel Michael at 749-5746 and Sara Meyer at 749-5574.
