Brittney Hixson and Stefanie Dowell, Gallatin R-5 FBLA members, represented the state of Missouri, at the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida, June 24-27. Brittney Hixson participated in Parliamentary Procedures and served as the president of the Missouri team. Stefanie Dowell attended the conference as a delegate for the state of Missouri.

Ms. Hixson and Ms. Dowell were accompanied to Orlando with chapter adviser Barb Holcomb and her husband, Jim Holcomb. Between meetings and competitions they did site seeing in the Orlando area, with visits to Magic Kingdom, Sea World, and Cocoa Beach. Some of the highlights of the trip were getting to see Cinderella’s castle, Shamu, petting dolphins at Sea World, and having dinner with Disney characters from The Lion King.

The competition is part of a competitive events program sponsored annually by FBLA-PBL, a professional association for students pursuing business careers. Individuals, local chapters, and state teams compete in over 40 events representing a range of business, career, and leadership development activities.

The winners of these challenging and prestigious awards are selected from FBLA-PBL’s 210,000 members, and have won state and regional competitions to qualify for the national awards program. Nearly 6000 delegates attended the 54th annual conference to elect national student officers and attend business and leadership workshops in addition to competing in business and career skill events. This year’s national theme, “FBLA-PBL: The Road to Your Success!” reflects the goals of FBLA-PBL members, some of the best and the brightest of today’s young people.
