Local Venture Crew team advances to national trap shoot

Three teams from Winston’s Venture Crew 167 competed in the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) on June 18 at Linn Creek, homegrounds for the Missouri Trap Association. Each team member shot 200 registered targets apiece. The junior team, for grade 8 and under, scored 865 out of 1000 and placed second, qualifying for Nationals which will be held Aug. 9 in Vandalia, Ohio. The junior team comprises Cody Frazier, Andrew Pierce, Rachel Michael, Rachel Hopkins, and Chelsea Caldwell. They competed against nine other teams.

Two senior level teams also scored well. Senior I Team, comprising Jared Lee, Sean Wood, Jackie Lee, Danny Benedict and Jody Michael, scored 871 out of 1000. The Senior II Team, comprising John McDonald, Jona Stevens, Jessica Frazier, Mallory Heldenbrand, and Daniel Pierce, scored 781 out of 1000. The senior teams, grades 9-12, were competing against 18 other teams.
