Ten members of the Gallatin FFA Chapter attended the Missouri FFA State Leadership Camp at the Lake of the Ozarks in Kaiser June 20-24. There were 200 FFA members from across the state attending week three of the six-week camp.
The theme for this year’s camp, “FFA S.I., FFA Scene Investigation,” helped the students work on personal and team leadership skills. Some of the opportunities that were provided for the students included a college fair, a camp dance, and seminars by state service organizations, as well as instructional activities in archery, canoeing, boating, and a camp favorite, discing.
This year the Missouri Department of Conservation was again a key player in the success of camp. They provided each student with materials and instruction to make fish print T-shirts, and provided seminars on lure making and fish identification, wildlife habitat, wet land habitats, and endangered species of Missouri. The department also donated their time to assist with instructional archery activities for the students.
Throughout the week students also competed in FFA contests and sporting events. The students were recognized for their achievements during an awards ceremony Friday. The students from Gallatin that attended were all recognized during this ceremony and are as follows:
Jessica Fifer: camp sentinel, state leadership award, first place impromptu speaking, first place extemporaneous speaking, first place rituals team and vespers committee member.
