The state Board of Education voted Thursday to take away the teaching license of a former superintendent who stole more than $800,000 from his school district.

The board, with little discussion, revoked the licenses of Ronnie DeShon, former superintendent of the Pattonsburg School District.

DeShon admitted in federal court in March that he embezzled $844,477 over four years from the district. DeShon, of Gallatin, faces up to 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000. He could also be sentenced to pay restitution. His attorney has asked for a lighter sentence, noting his cooperation with investigators, but federal authorities oppose the request.

U.S. Attorney Todd Graves has estimated DeShon would probably be sentenced to roughly three years in prison.
