The Daviess County Jr. Livestock Show is being held at Dockery Park in Gallatin July 7-8-9, and 4-H Achievement Day is July 6.

The Invitational 4-H and FFA Livestock Show is open to all 4-H and FFA members living in any county in Missouri and enrolled in respective livestock projects, or belonging to 4-H Clubs or FFA Chapters. Points will be earned in conjunction with the Invitational Show to Daviess County only FFA and 4-H members.

Brad Tummons is the General Superintendent of the show. Doug and Sandra Alden will head the Junior Rodeo scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m. The rodeo is sponsored by the Gallatin Men’s Club. Kim Brammer is in charge of concessions, and Alicia Chrisman is president of the Fair Board.

Crystal Cook, daughter of James Cook, Linda Turpin and the late Linda Dierlain Cook of Jameson, was named as the 2005 Daviess County Queen after the competition held June 24.

First runner-up was Kayle Phillips of Gallatin, and second runner-up was Wendy Claiborn of Winston. The contestants were interviewed by three judges, performed a talent/speech, and participated in an evening gown competition. Flowers Unlimited provided a bouquet of flowers for the queen and first runner up.

Escorts for the pageant were Jake Gardner and Mitch Riley. Royalty attendants were Chloe Simmons and Briar Roll. Lights and sound was by Chuck Malo. Pageant coordinators were Amanda and Linda Bohannon. Awbrey Nelson sang the National Anthem. Entertainment was provided by dancers from Dance Essentials and The Dance Company, Aubrey Nelson, Lexi Tolson, Kaley Esbeck, Annie Nelson and Ainsley Tolson.

Last year’s county queen, Keira Story, gave a retirement speech and crowned the new queen, Crystal Cook. Crystal, 18, recently graduated from North Daviess R-3 and will be attending the College of the Ozarks in the fall. She will reign over the 2005 Daviess County Fair this week and will be assisting at the livestock shows and rodeo. In August Crystal will represent Daviess County in the Missouri State Fair Queen Contest. At the state level entrants compete for $2,100 in scholarship money.

Any Daviess County girl between the ages of 17-22 is invited to participate in next year’s competition. Contact Amanda Bohannon for further information or see any Daviess County Fair Board member.
