Ninety-six cars were on hand to test the three-eights mile track at the Winston Speedway for Mid-Season Championship night. Racing is held each Saturday at the Winston Speedway located 10 miles north of Cameron on I-35 at exit 64. Racing begins at 7 p.m.

It was features only with cars lined up according to points and the top six or eight in the five divisions not having to qualify.

In the 21-car IMCA modified field Bud Wilson of Trenton started front row outside and dueled with J.J. Baumli of Lathrop and Chad Shaw of Trimble for most of the race. Baumli was second and Shaw third. Truman Asher of St. Joseph and Steven Glenn of Hamilton won the B qualifying features.

Steve McDowell of Independence won his B qualifying feature and then came from the fourth row to grab the feature and Mid-Season title in the Grand National field. The race was shortened to only seven laps because of seven cautions and the time limit. Travis Walker of Cameron was second.

Tommy Cordray of Browning nudged past Vic Austin on the fourth lap and then held off newcomer Chris Morgan of Topeka, Kan., to capture the Mid-Season crown in the Late Model class. Morgan won the B qualifying feature.

Blake Peeler of Milan worked to the front on the second lap and held off Cody Owen of Kansas City to grab Mid-Season honors in the stock car class. Cody Morgan of Winston won the B qualifying feature, but went out early in the A Feature.

Steven Hacker Jr. of Chillicothe had won four Hobby Stock features before Saturday night and finished second in the only other race. He added a Mid-Season crown to that list with his Hobby Stock feature win.

He started on the pole as the point leader and led the distance in the 13-car feature field. Chris Christofferson of St. Joseph won the B qualifying feature.

There are no point races for the Junior Hobby and Junior Stock classes for 12-16 year-olds, so a heat and feature was held in each. Jacob Youngs of Coffey won his heat and the feature in the Junior Hobby class while Hunter Marriott won his fifth feature in the Junior Stock class after winning his heat.

Five the Cyclone miniature cars were on hand and Tiffany Perkins of Lamoni, Iowa won the feature.
