Pat McDonald spoke with the city council concerning the closing of Central Ave., for the upcoming block party and flea market at there regular board meeting on June 8.
Pat McDonald presented the request for street closings at the block party and flea market to be held on June 24-25. He also asked that the flea market vendors be allowed to set up their RVs by the vacant parking lot between the water tower and the post office. Leonard Barr made the motion to allow it, all in favor.
Pete and Penny Gardner were there on behalf of the park board to discuss the planting of trees at the park. The council would like a plan of where the trees will be planted. It was also suggested having a map with the listing of the trees that memorialize an individual. The purpose of the map would let others know where a certain memorial tree is and also to make sure they are not destroyed in years to come. A decision will be made at a later date after meeting with the park board.
Dwight Schell removed himself from the discussion concerning the request of his liquor license for 2005-2006 for KJ’s Two Stop. Gene Walker motioned to hold the request until June 30. If no incidents occur in that time frame then he will be issued a new license. Leonard Barr seconded with a 3-0 vote.
Gene Walker also motioned to renew the membership with the Missouri Municipal League for the 2005-2006 year. Motion was seconded by Barbara Streich, all in favor.
The council reviewed the applications for summer help, hiring Tyler Carter for 32 hours a week or as needed at $6 per hour. Hours to be worked Tuesday through Friday or as needed for 12 weeks or until the start of school.
The council moved into executive session to discuss the surveying of land for Larry McNeely.
It was requested by the council that the siren only be used for emergencies, instead of three times a day. Gene Walker suggested conducting a survey to determine what the majority of citizens would prefer. The matter was left open for further discussion.
It was also suggested that the city council change its meeting date to accommodate people better and will be considered.
