James Lewis, bridge supervisor, met with the commission reporting that due to weather delays, the concrete will be poured on the bridge deck in Grand River Township this week.

Craig Smith, Extension Council, met with the commission regarding the oak tree on the west side of the courthouse. The tree needs chelated iron applied. He also introduced Becky Simpson as 4-H Specialist.

The commission discussed the bridge barn roof. Danny Heldenbrand moved to employ Caldwell Construction Company to install new seamless guttering and downspouts at a cost of $994. Motion passed unanimously.

Kenny King and Brett Brown, Missouri Gas Utility, met with the commission requesting permission to place gas lines along road right-of-way. They were referred to the Monroe Township Board.

Notice was received from the State Tax Commission of the Consumer Price Index increase to 3.5%

Kevin Heldenbrand, sheriff, after conferring with Julia Filley, prosecuting attorney, met with the commission requesting a vet bill in excess of $500 be paid to a vet in Cameron for care given to a dog in an animal neglect case. The prosecutor will seek restitution.

Charles Radabaugh, Sheridan Township Trustee, contacted the commission requesting that .25 mile of road on 180th Street (CART Road 204) in section 20 of that township, be added to the CART Program. Granted.

In the afternoon, the commission, along with DeKalb County Commissioners, toured the Caldwell County Jail Facility. They also met with officials of Farmers Bank of Northern Missouri discussing financing opportunities for jail projects. The commissioners discussed with DeKalb County Commissioners the costs involved with owning our own jail and the number of prisoners that would be housed.

A copy was received from the county’s attorney of the decision by Circuit Judge Hull finding in the Georgia Maxwell versus Daviess County Commission, in favor of the respondents, the Commission. “No legal authority exists for the Daviess County Commission, nor the individual commissioners thereof, to grant relator cost of living pay increases granted to other county officeholders in the years 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002, when relator’s office, Recorder of Deeds, was not a county funded position.”
